Wrestling Tournament (formerly the Southeast Open)

Our ninth annual tournament features a new name and a new location. Once again known as the Hokie Open, the tournament will once again kick off the start of college wrestling competition in Virginia on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the same venue. The event will be held at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, VA (right off of I-81 just north of Blacksburg). We expect up to 30 teams to compete at this year's edition as the 2017 - 2018 season gets underway. Once again, the tournament will feature two divisions:

  • Freshman / Sophomore Division: this division is geared toward 1st and 2nd year wrestlers (and even upper classmen) who might not be ready for the rigors of the OPEN Division. The goal of this division is to provide these wrestlers with MORE opportunities to advance further in an early-season college-level wrestling tournament.
  • Open Division: this division is open to any and all participants (HS WRESTLERS ARE PERMITTED THIS YEAR) and is geared toward wrestlers who NEED TO compete at the highest levels of D-1 wrestling. This division is open to ALL COLLEGE and HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLERS, regardless of year or age, and will be limited to the first 300 wrestlers who are REGISTERED & PAID online.
  • BOTH DIVISIONS ARE DOUBLE-ELIMINATION!! Wrestlers will be placed into 16 / 24 man brackets. We plan to wrestle on 14 mats and wrestle to 6th places. Losers of the semi-finals will wrestler for 3rd, all other consolations matches wrestler to 6th.

This year's event WILL NOT BE STREAMED due to a restrictive policy within the ACC. The ACC has the exclusive rights to stream all sports, so this event WILL NOT BE STREAMED because they either don't want to or can't stream the event live on the Web. We will once again be using FloArena tournament software to run the tournament, so coaches and fans can follow mat assignments and results.

The 2017 Hokie Open tournament directors reserve the right to make any changes to the tournament that are in the best interests of running and completing the best possible and efficient tournament.
